War of Patrols: Canadian Army Operations in Korea (Studies in Canadian Military History)

War of Patrols: Canadian Army Operations in Korea (Studies in Canadian Military History)

Product Description

The extended peace the world anticipated following the decisive Allied victory in the Second World War was abruptly shattered in June 1950 by the invasion of South Korea by communist North Korea. Responding to a United Nations’ call to assist the South Korean regime, Canada deployed an 8000-man brigade to the peninsula to fight as part of an American-led UN force.

This comprehensive account of the Canadian campaign in Korea provides the first detailed study of the training, leadership, operations, and tactics of the brigade under each of its three wartime commanders as well as its relationship with American and Commonwealth allies. An impeccably researched analytical history, the book examines the uneven performance of the various Canadian units and argues that the soldiers of the "Special Force" initially sent to Korea were more thorough and professional in their operations than were the army’s regular battalions that eventually replaced them at the front.

The revisionist interpretations of A War of Patrols will attract both academic and military professionals, as well as general readers interested in a fresh look at an important part of Canada’s military past.

Published in association with the Canadian War Museum.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Bag, March 15, 2012

This review is from: Mil-Tec Military Army Patrol MOLLE Assault Pack Tactical Combat Rucksack Backpack 30L Black (Misc.)
I ordered this bag for the sole purpose of using for a emergency pack in my truck. The pack is as big as described and for small it is, it holds alot of stuff, so far its holding up great and seems to be of good quality. The bag came from a outdoor store in Ireland, but shipped super fast and they were prompt with an email about shipping. I am pleased so far and for the price it cannot be beat. I feel very safe knowing I am prepared with this bag and contents.

5.0 out of 5 stars perfect for easy carry, January 25, 2012
This review is from: Mil-Tec Military Army Patrol MOLLE Assault Pack Tactical Combat Rucksack Backpack 30L Black (Misc.)
I was expecting an "assault pack" not a huge rucksack and that is what i got. very heavy duty holds WAY more than it looks like it should be able to. Also very comfortable to wear even fully loaded. everything about this pack is made for rugged feild use. I carry it with me in my vehicle every day as a just in case bag so it gets thrown around alot as i move it between vehicles and bring it in the house every night. I am going to buy another one for just a small hiking pack. the chest and waist belt make it easy to secure for climbing too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Does exactly what I expected!, November 21, 2009
    Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
I have had many polarizers over the years. I have used filters such as this for over 25 years. I like the Tiffen as it is not too dark for most uses. I keep it on for almost every shot (unless it is night time or quite dark) to protect my lenses and for it's mild polarizing effect. (I take 1000s of images on a shoot, mostly landscape) Some other brands are too dark to do this. The dark ones many times look too polarized, and post processing has to take much of this out anyway. I do have a few of these and use them occasionally. I have found that an image that is properly balanced that does not need too much darkening or lightening post processing is much better, I have a Hoya but it is always falling apart (and way too dark). I have Heliopan 77mm Circular Polarizer Lens Filters and like the quality, but again they are too dark to keep on all the time. The Heliopan is the one I keep for special uses when I want more polarizing effects than I get with the Tiffen. The Tiffen polarizers... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars The filter every autofocus camera user NEEDS!, May 14, 2002
    By
Jerry Jackson Jr. (Cincinnati, OH United States) - See all my reviews
    (REAL NAME)
If you have an autofocus camera and shoot photos outdoors, this filter needs to be attached to the end of your lens. (If you have a manual focus camera you need a linear polarizer) The polarizer darkens blue skies (if the sky is light blue, you get deep, rich blue) and eleminates glare and reflection in glass and water.

With this filter, you can take a photo of someone standing in front of a window and not have the glare or reflection of the window shooting back into the lens. It also helps you shoot indoors at an aquarium (you can take crystal-clear photos of the killer whales and dolphins without glare from the glass).

This filter can't take the photos for you, but it can make your photos look much more professional. The only thing to be careful of is the fact that the polarizer makes the image a little darker, so if you are shooting in dark light, you need a flash or a slower shutter speed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Quality, July 9, 2006
    By
SevereWX (Florida, USA) - See all my reviews
    (VINE VOICE)
The Tiffen circular polarizing filter does exactly what it's supposed to do, and it does it well. The threading fits on my Nikkor lenses perfectly, screws on and stays put. The rotating ring on the filter is not too tight, nor too loose and rotates very smoothly, staying put where it's set at. When comparing identical images taken with and without the filter, there are no noticable distortions or color shifts present.
